It’s raining everyday at the same time, professors are wearing shorts around the planning department, and the department secretaries don’t look totally stressed out.  It MUST be SUMMER!  First, let me congratulate the grads of 2007.  Secondly, I would like to welcome the new planning students at Florida State, Florida Atlantic, and University of Florida.  In case no one has filled you in yet, it’s a great time to be a DURPer!

Although school doesn’t start until August now is the time to begin planning for the 2007 FAPA Conference.  This year the conference will be held in Orlando at the Walt Disney World Resort from September 5th through 8th.  Details about registration, accommodations, and conference sessions can be found through the links on the right hand side of this student page.  All conference information can be found on this website. There are also a limited number of volunteer positions available.  If you are interested in volunteering send either me (ipatten@ufl.edu) or Marty Quinn (adminbk@floridaplanning.org) an email.

The student events at this year’s conference include the student reception, a panel of students presenting their research projects, and the Job Fair.  Last year the Job Fair was a HUGE SUCCESS and will be a tough act to follow but we have been working very hard to make this year’s Job Fair bigger and better.  This Job Fair is for everyone.  If you are a new student this is a great opportunity to check out the job opportunities within the state and talk to potential employers for internships or summer employment (it’s never too early to network!).  If you are graduating during the 2007-2008 academic year this is an opportunity to speak with companies that may help you attain your first job after graduation.  Regardless of your motives, attending the Job Fair is a great choice and I hope to see you all there!

I have also posted new Blog topics at http://fapa4students.blogspot.com/.  If you are looking for roommates for the conference or if you did something really cool this summer relating to planning, the Blog is the perfect place to post your comments.  If you would like to subscribe to the Blog (the Blog is open to Florida Planning Students only) send me an email and I will send you an invitation.

Lastly, I’ve registered for the FAPA Conference, have you?  Each university will be sending around additional conference details.  Again, if you have questions about anything, let me know.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see you all in Orlando!
