About Us

The Promised Lands Section of the American Planning Association, Florida Chapter is composed of local planners, architects, city and county officials, and others interested in the planning profession and the impact it can have on our area and the state as a whole.

The Section covers Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, and Lee Counties.

What We Do
The Promised Lands Section works to advance the art and science of sound planning through the active exchange of information, ideas, and experiences, and provides a local connection to the State and national organization.

Since 2000, the Section has hosted an annual Smart Growth Symposium in conjunction with World Town Planning Day that has brought in nationally known experts in the field of Smart Growth. The Section also presents the Annual Planner of Distinction Award to one of our local planners for their outstanding service to the planning profession.

Where We're Going
The future of the Promised Lands Section is very bright! Through the active participation of its membership, the Section will increase awareness of issues affecting the area, create a more unified approach to planning for the future of the region, and work to represent and advance the interests and welfare of the Section, its members, and the planning profession.

FAPA Connection
The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association serves APA members in the state. FAPA is the state-level resource for networking and professional development. The Promised Lands Section functions as the local connection to our state office.

AICP Connection
The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation is awarded to qualified planners based on established criteria, including education, years of experience, and passing a written examination on the history, techniques, and ethics of the planning profession. All AICP members are encouraged to maintain their professional proficiency through the Continuing Professional Development Program (CPDP). The AICP Code of Ethics, adopted in 1978, is a guide to the ethical conduct required of AICP members.
