NOTICE TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING OPTIONS UNDER SENATE BILL 360
The Florida Department of Community Affairs has posted a notice to local governments of transportation options under SB 360 on its website. The Department is providing this Notice to local governments in which transportation concurrency exception areas (TCEAs) designated pursuant to Senate Bill 360 are located. This Notice advises these local governments of the planning options and requirements applicable to TCEAs under Senate Bill 360. SIS STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD
The Florida Department of Transportation has been working with a 31-member Leadership Committee of key partners for several months to develop draft recommendations for updating the Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) Strategic Plan. Draft policy recommendations and draft designation criteria for the updated plan are now ready for review and feedback by a wider circle of partners and the public. Twelve regional workshops will be held around the state from August 27th through September 22nd. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE. DEP ANNOUNCES TWO NEW PUBLIC ACCESS TOOLS
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently announced the launch of announced the launch of two new public access Web tools - the Contamination Locater Map, known as CLM, and the Compliance and Enforcement Web site. CLM includes locational information for Brownfield sites, petroleum sites, Superfund sites, and other waste cleanup sites such as drycleaning, hazardous waste and state-owned lands. Search results in the vicinity of the specified location are depicted on a map with site name, address, facility identification number, site type and cleanup status (active or pending). By using the facility identification number, users may view actual documents associated with the site. The other Web addition is the Compliance and Enforcement Web site, which offers insight into DEP's compliance and enforcement philosophy and efforts - providing an overview on Environmental Litigation Reform Act (ELRA), the penalty assessment process, enforcement statistics as well as enforcement examples.

BC SPRAWL REPORT: WALKABILITY AND HEALTH
The 2009 BC Sprawl Report: Walkability and Health from Smart Growth BC links physical activity and health data from 16 neighborhoods dispersed throughout British Columbia, spanning the urban to rural spectrum, with objective and subjective walkability index scores. The report also provides in-depth case studies of active transportation urban form policies for the City of Vancouver, City of Port Moody and District of Invermere. STUDY RELEASED ON HIGHWAY FATALITIES AND DEFICIENT ROADWAY CONDITIONS
A recent report conducted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation states that more than half of U.S. highway fatalities are related to deficient roadway conditions. Titled "On a Crash Course: The Dangers and Health Costs of Deficient Roadways," , the study claims that crashes linked to deficient roadway conditions cost taxpayers over $12 billion per year. According to the report, Florida is one of the top ten states with the highest total cost from crashes involving deficient roadway conditions. AICP CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE (CM) 4-MONTH "GRACE PERIOD"
For all AICP members that are required to complete the minimum 32 CM credits in the 2-year reporting period from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 - GOOD NEWS! You have a 4-month "Grace "Period" until April 30, 2010 to get all your credits! What this means is that if you participate in CM eligible events between January 1, 2010 and April 30, 2010, these may count toward meeting the minimum 32 CM credits for the reporting period. Don't forget - you may also claim CM eligible events which occurred between April 15, 2007 and December 31, 2007 toward meeting the minimum 32 CM credits.
