June 20, 2006

What do hundreds of planners, the Marco Island Marriott Resort Golf Club and Spa and this September all have in common?  It's the FAPA Annual Conference!  This year we have the fortunate opportunity of hosting the state conference in the Promised Lands Section from September 27th-30th.  Please join us in exploring our "backyard" by signing up for one of several mobile workshops being offered and attending sessions at the conference hotel to learn how planners throughout the State are dealing with "the squeeze" being felt by everyone as opportunities to accommodate Florida's projected population growth are becoming more limited. Additional details about on-line registration, hotel reservations, exhibit and sponsorship opportunities, the Old China Hands commemorative mug, the first annual Student JobFair, and awards can be found below.  We invite you to register for the conference and make your hotel reservations now!

      - Vince Cautero AICP, Promised Lands Section Chair and Conference Co-Chair
      - Allison Megrath AICP, Promised Lands Vice-Chair

ON LINE REGISTRATION FOR FAPA'S 2006 ANNUAL CONFERENCE IS NOW OPEN!!!
Once again, FAPA has joined forces with APA to bring you the ability to register for FAPA's Annual Conference on-line using a credit card.  FAPA members are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to opt for on-line registration versus paper registrations wherever possible.  FAPA pays a higher fee for the processing of paper registrations.  FAPA's Executive Committee chose NOT to pass this fee on to FAPA members.  We recognize that many of you, especially those who work for a local government, may be unable to register with a credit card and we fully expect to receive paper registrations in those instances.  However, we are again asking that if it is feasible for you, please register on-line with a credit card.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for considering this request.

A link to on-line registration as well as other conference information is posted to FAPA's website at http://www.floridaplanning.org or you may click here to directly link to APA's registration webpage.
The 2006 Conference Preliminary Brochure and registration form will be posted to FAPA's website in the next few weeks.  Early registration ends August 17th and registration closes September 6th.  The registration cancellation policy is posted at the end of these announcements.

PLANNING AFTER DARK: A FUSION OF OLD AND NEW at the "OLD CHINA HANDS" Social
Make plans to attend the Old China Hands social on Friday, September 29, 2006 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Art League of Marco Island. As has become our tradition, this is an opportunity to see old friends, meet new friends, learn from our mistakes and enjoy our successes. This is your chance to meet your mentors or to be a mentor to a less experienced planner in a relaxed atmosphere with free flowing drinks and plenty of food. This year, for the first time, you will have the opportunity to purchase an "Old China Hands" Souvenir Beer Mug. Quantities are limited so order now! See the Reception Flyer and Mug order form or visit http://www.floridaplanning.org/conference/ for more information.
