Decision-Making for Florida's FutureFAPA 2004 LEGISLATIVE WORKSHOP DRAFT AGENDA (pdf)| Registration Form (pdf) | Sponsor's Guide (pdf) See also: 2004 FAPA Legislative Platform (pdf) Make plans NOW to attend FAPA’s Legislative Workshop, February 18-19, 2004, at the Holiday Inn Select, 316 West Tennessee Street, Tallahassee. Hosted by both the Chapter and the Capital Area Section, and with the assistance of the Apalachee Chapter of the Florida Planning and Zoning Association, this day and a half workshop will provide various viewpoints on the 2004 Legislative Session and will explore the decision-making implications that become evident with a reexamination of Florida’s growth management program. Our keynote speaker this year is David Callies, FAICP, the Benjamin A. Kudo Professor of Law at the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii at Manoa. Professor Callies teaches land use, local government, and property law. He is also one of the authors of the American Planning Association’s policy on the relationship between the ballot box and planning. Following a welcome by FAPA’s President Joe Bell, President-Elect Valerie Hubbard, and FAPA’s Legislative Representative Lester Abberger, we will hear from DCA Secretary Colleen Castille, as well as invited Legislators and other state policy leaders. We will also be hearing from representatives of the many organizations and associations in Tallahassee that play a key role in influencing the development of growth management policy. The workshop will include an overview of and commentary on the findings of the Council of 100 regarding the state’s water resources. The outstanding panelists include Jake Varn, Fowler White Boggs Banker; Kathleen Vogel, Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; Eric Draper, Audubon of Florida; Elliot Kampert, Department of Environmental Services, Charlotte County, and others. Representatives of the American Planning Association are invited to discuss the implications of initiatives and referenda on planning and a group of industry representatives will be presenting exciting new opportunities to facilitate planning decision-making. Finally, a social function will be held the evening of the 18th, which will give FAPA members and other participants the opportunity to meet with Legislators and network among peers. Mail your registration
form (pdf) to the Chapter Office at 2040 Delta Way,
