Serving as an Expert Witness: Strategies and Techniques for Planners – Tampa
February 23 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm$5 - $15
Both public and private sector planners can be called to serve as expert witnesses during the course of their planning careers. Preparation and training is paramount to success in this endeavor. Recognizing this professional development need, the Sun Coast Section is hosting an in-depth symposium about preparing to be a strong expert witness. A panel of experts will provide preparation tips, legal facts, and recommendations on how to develop yourself into a superior expert witness from the time you create plans and staff reports all the way to testimony at trial.
The session will cover an overview of the role of the planner in various settings, they types of cases in which planners are needed, legal standards of review, types of testimony, and overall preparation. There will also be an opportunity to hear from planners who have served as expert witnesses. They will share information about their experiences and lessons learned.
Special thank you to our speakers and the Section’s Annual Sponsor, Mark S. Bentley, Esq., B.C.S., AICP for sponsoring, coordinating and developing this fantastic session!
