Planning & LGBTQ Communities: Ybor’s Role in a Diverse Tampa Bay
October 11 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pmFree
October 11, 2018 is the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day. In a special event that celebrates both of the occasions, Planning & LGBTQ Communities: Ybor’s Role in a Diverse Tampa Bay recognizes and raises awareness about the role of place-based and community organizations in supporting a thriving local economy, fostering diversity, and supporting quality of life. The Ybor area plays a unique role in the Tampa Bay area as a place for inclusivity, ethnicity, and prosperity for diverse groups. This event will highlight the ways urban planning, economic development, and community organizations engage with LGBTQ and diverse communities in Ybor and beyond. The event concludes with a walking tour of Ybor City that examines the neighborhood’s history as a center of diversity where community and economic development go hand-in-hand.
Following the event, attendees have the option to join us for a special “Ybor City Then and Now” walking tour led by Brenda Thrower of the YCDC and Dr. Wallace Reyes or may head straight to a post-happy hour event at Hamburger Mary’s. Walking tour participants are also welcomed to join the happy hour post-tour.
