- Wynwood NRD-1 Panel Event – November 20, 2015 November 20, 2015
Wynwood, Miami’s former garment district, has become a globally-recognized destination for art, food, and one of Miami’s most desirable areas for creative industry. However, the neighborhood’s evolution has been slowed by existing land development regulations that until recently not been adapted to reflect the changes to the neighborhood.
After commissioning a master plan, the Wynwood Business Improvement District and the City’s Planning Department have put in motion the Wynwood Neighborhood Revitalization District (“NRD-1”), an overlay zoning district designed to incentivize redevelopment while retaining Wynwood’s unique industrial chic character and mural arts component.
On November 20, 2015, Gold Coast Section hosted a panel of key players responsible for the drafting and ultimate adoption of these innovative zoning regulations, including Juan Mullerat of Plusurbia, David Polinsky of the Wynwood BID, Steven J. Wernick, Esq. of Akerman LLP, and David Snow and Joe Eisenberg of the City of Miami Planning Department.

- Wynwood Neighborhood – 2015 APA Great Place in America! October 1, 2015
Great Places in America is the flagship program of APA, launched in 2007. Each year in October, APA honors neighborhoods, public spaces, and streets across America that have added value to communities. APA considers places so designated to be the gold standard in terms of having a sense of place, cultural and historic interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow.
Historically, APA has designated 30 great places per year. This year, only 15 designees were selected, making the designation of Wynwood that much more meaningful.
Gold Coast Section Chair, Maeve Desmond, was invited by APA to present the award to the City of Miami and its representatives, including members of the Wynwood Business Improvement District, at the October 22, 2015 City Commission meeting.
